TO God

There was a man who worked for the Post Office whose job was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses. One day, a letter came addressed, written in a shaky handwriting, to God with no actual address. He thought he should open it to see what it was about. The letter read:

우체국에서 우편물의 주소점검을 하던 한 직원이 하루는 정식 주소 대신 '하나님 앞"
이라고 흘림으로 쓴 편지 한통을 발견하고, 반송할까하다가 그편지를 열어서 그내용을 읽어 보기로 했다.

Dear God,

I am an 83 year old widow, living on a very small pension. Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had $100 in it, which was all the money I had until my next pension payment.

Next Sunday is Christmas, and I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with, have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope. Can you please help me?

"하나님젼 상셔"
지는 노인아파트에 사는 83살의 독신녀인디유, 어제 워떤사람이 지 지갑을 훔쳐갔는디유, 그속에 지 이달치 전재산 100불이 들었걸랑유. 그돈 없으믄 오는 X-Mas 날 초청한 두 친구와 저녁 못먹어유. 하나님이 도와 주실수없으신가유?

The postal worker was touched.. He showed the letter to all the other workers. Each one dug into his or her wallet and came up with a few dollars. By the time he made the rounds, he had collected $96, which they put into an envelope and sent to the woman.

그래서 우체국 직원들은 서로 돈을 모아 96불을 마련해서 그 할머니에게 보내드렸다.

The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of Edna and the dinner she would be able to share with her friends.

그리고 우체국직원들은 생각했다. 이제 머지 않아 하나님께 보내는 할머니의 따뜻한 답글의 답장이 오겠지... 친구들과 잘 먹었다는...

Christmas came and went. (크리스마스가 지나가고..)

A few days later, another letter came from the same old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the letter was opened. It read:

며칠후 하나님께보내는 그 할머니의 답장이 드디어 왔다. 우체국 직원들은 둘러 앉아 그 편지를 읽었다. 내용은 이랬다.


Dear God,

How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? Because of your gift of love, I was able to fix a glorious dinner for my friends. We had a very nice day and I told my friends of your wonderful gift. By the way, there was $4 missing. I think it might have been those bastards at the post office.

"하나님뎐 상셔~."
하나님께서 주신 선물 너무너무 감샤하옵고, 덕분에 친구들과 영광의 저녁을 잘 먹었고. 친구들에게도 하나님 자랑 많이 했습니다요.
그런데 4불이 모자랐어유. 제생각에는 저 못된 우체국 직원들의 짓인것 같어유. 아무튼 감샤합니다요. -에드나드림-.
