Clinical tests on Koreans in Japan? A hospital in Fukuoka, Japan, has been conducting stem cell tests on Koreans, the Mainichi newspaper reported Dec. 22. According to the report, the Shinjuku Hakada Clinic, a skin clinic in Hakada, has been conducting stem cell tests on more than 500 Koreans. The clinic has apparently been injecting stem cells harvested within the clinic on potential testees introduced by a bio venture company. The injection normally takes a day. By testing the stem cells on humans, the clinic hopes to cure such diseases as diabetes, heart diseases, rheumatism and Parkinson’s disease. The Korean Health and Welfare Ministry said the clinic has been receiving 10-30 million won ($9,000-27,000) from potential patients then conducting tests on people who are given a certain amount of money in countries where there are not regulations on such medical tests. While such tests are banned in Korea under pharmaceutical laws, there are no such regulations in Japan. -->
